GE Monitoring & Diagnostics
Substation Monitoring
GE offers a wide range of solutions for monitoring and managing critical assets in the power grid, detecting and diagnosing problems, and providing information and expert services. Our portfolio of diagnostic and asset monitoring solutions includes solutions for single- and multi-gas transformer gas analysis (DGA), comprehensive solutions for transformers and circuit breaker monitoring, as well as software and services.
TRANSPORT X2
A portable, compact system for dissolved gas analysis (DGA) that delivers laboratory-grade results from samples manually collected from transformers filled with mineral oil or ester. It enables rapid diagnostics in less than 30 minutes through an enhanced graphical touchscreen user interface.
HYDRAN M2-X:
Real-time single-gas and humidity DGA monitor with a long sensor lifespan, which can be easily expanded to provide a more comprehensive transformer monitoring solution for electric utilities and industrial facilities.
KELMAN DGA 900 PLUS:
In-line DGA device that monitors the 9 fault gases and moisture using a fourth-generation PAS sensor that requires no consumables, with dedicated options for transformer, cooling, OLTC, and bushing monitoring.
GE CB Watch 3
It is a modular and compact online monitoring solution suitable for high-voltage circuit breakers. It records data using non-invasive sensors and performs real-time local monitoring of the operating parameters of the circuit breaker’s key functions. It detects threshold violations, alerts users to any significant changes in operational performance, and compiles an assessment of the circuit breaker’s overall condition.
VAISALA
Monitoring Moisture, Temperature, and Hydrogen in Transformer Dielectric Oil
Power transformers are the most expensive asset in a substation. Monitoring the moisture and hydrogen levels in the dielectric oil provides a clear indication of its overall condition. With this information, it is possible to determine with greater certainty whether maintenance is necessary or if there is any type of internal fault. Furthermore, with a little data analysis and trend monitoring, it is possible to determine how urgent an intervention might be, whether a condition is worsening, or if it remains stable. The information provided by a monitoring system saves money by preventing a power transformer from going out of service due to a failure, it allows for the optimization of maintenance by avoiding outages through planned maintenance based on real-time information, which extends the useful life of these assets and, in the worst-case scenario, can prevent a catastrophic failure.
Point measurements of moisture in transformer oil (in ppm) in power transformers can present significant challenges, since moisture is constantly migrating between the paper and the oil depending on temperature. Vaisala recommends measuring water activity as the most reliable method, since it allows you to detect the presence of free water, which can cause insulation failure and lead to partial discharges or open arcs. VAISALA offers instruments that can monitor two or three variables in transformer oil:
- Oil Moisture and Temperature
- Moisture, Temperature, and Hydrogen in Oil
MMT330
The Vaisala MMT330 series of oil moisture and temperature transmitters enables fast and reliable detection of moisture in oil; they can be used for online moisture monitoring and as a control device, allowing oil separators and dryers to be activated only when necessary; features graphical trend display, optional data logging, and a WLAN interface
MMT310
Vaisala HUMICAP® MMT310 Series Humidity and Temperature Transmitters for oil provide fast and reliable detection of moisture in oil.
MMT162
The Vaisala HUMICAP® moisture and temperature transmitter for oil, model MMT162, is an excellent and cost-effective solution for reliable online detection of moisture in oil.
MM70
Designed for quick and easy on-site humidity checks, it also functions as a calibrator for various VAISALA monitoring systems, featuring a graphical display, data logging, and data transfer to a PC.
