CMC 850: The specific protection test kit for IEC 61850

IEC 61850

The CMC 850 is the world's first protection test set dedicated to IEC 61850. It focuses on real-time GOOSE and Sampled Values communication methods to interact with the devices under test. Like the other CMC test sets, the CMC 850 is controlled by OMICRON's proven Test Universe software. It also offers several built-in functions accessible via a web interface using a standard web browser. The CMC 850 is small and lightweight because its focus on IEC 61850 applications means that there is no need for conventional binary inputs and outputs or amplifiers for secondary signals.

Main features

  • Small and lightweight as it focuses on IEC 61850 applications
  • Ready-to-run software: OMICRON Control Center, IEC 61850 configuration modules, IEDScout, etc..
  • Built-in functions accessible with standard Web browsers.
  • Compatibility with Test Universe software.
  • 12 low-level analog outputs, e.g. to stimulate devices with low-level inputs

CMControl: Control panel for CMC test sets

The CMControl is an alternative control for CMC test sets, specifically designed for fast manual testing in the field. The device can be attached to the CMC test set or can be detached and used as a flexible handheld control.

CMControl supports the following applications:

  • Testing of protection and measuring devices: CMControl P
  • Testing of recloser and sectionalizer controls: CMControl R

Amplifiers

The CMA 156 or CMS 156 amplifiers can be used in combination with any CMC test set or together with real-time digital power system network simulators. The outputs are galvanically separated from the inputs as well as from ground, can be individually configured (connected in parallel, in series, etc.) and are used independently of the outputs of CMC test sets or together with them. The connection to a CMC test set is made by means of a control cable on the rear side of the units.

Hex-phase current amplifier (6 x 25 A, 3 x 50 A, 1 x 150 A)

CMA 156

The CMA 156 amplifiers can be used in combination with any CMC test set or in conjunction with real-time digital power system network simulators. The outputs are galvanically separated from the inputs as well as from ground and are used independently of or together with the outputs of CMC test sets.

The CMA 156 includes 6 independent current channels, arranged in two isolated groups (A, B). The outputs can be configured in different ways (connected in parallel, in series, etc.). For example, using 4 CMA 156 units, 3 x 200 A can be generated.

Connection to a CMC test set is made by means of a control cable located on the back of the test sets. Suitable for tests requiring more current channels than those provided by CMC test sets.

Three-phase voltage and current amplifier (3 x 250 V, 1 x 500 V; 3 x 25 A, 1 x 75 A)

CMS 156

In conjunction with a CMC test set, the CMS 156 is used for tests that require:

  • 6 independent voltage phases (e.g. for testing synchronization devices with 2 independent 3-phase voltage systems).
  • More current channels than those provided by CMC test sets
  • When used with a CMC 156 EP: higher output voltages and currents, higher output power

Accessories

We offer a wide range of additional accessories for our test and measurement equipment. Information about compatibility between our devices and accessories can be found in the detailed descriptions of the latter.
The CMGPS 588 synchronization unit is a GPS-controlled time reference integrated in the antenna. It is optimized for outdoor use and operates as a PTP grandmaster clock according to IEEE 1588-2008 / IEEE C37.238-2011.
The CMGPS 588 can be used for synchronization of CMC test sets with a NET-1B/C interface and Test Universe 3.0 software. The following applications are supported:

  • Synchronization of the starting point of a test procedure for two or more OMICRON CMC test sets
  • Synchronization of logging with real time stamping of measurement samples

The CMGPS 588 is automatically ready for operation shortly after it is connected to the power supply via Power over Ethernet (PoE). The distance between the CMGPS 588 and the CMC test set can be extended to a maximum of 95 m using extension cables.
